| Why Volunteer? |
|
Volunteers are incredibly important to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Georgia and Alabama, and we are always looking for new people to help us fulfill our mission. Each year, hundreds of dedicated volunteers help Make-A-Wish grant wishes.
We are committed to providing diverse and challenging opportunities for volunteers. We need people who have a deep desire to have an impact in children's lives by making their biggest dreams come true. Read more about how to volunteer. Make Wishes Come TrueThe wish granting process starts by interviewing each child to determine the wish, and then making it come true. Volunteers work in teams to plan and fulfill each wish by obtaining gifts and donations. The "Wish Team" has the opportunity to make the wish as unique as each child. Roll Up Your SleevesWishes are not possible without the support of the community. Join your neighbors while staffing the fundraising events that are held in communities throughout Georgia and Alabama. Share the MagicVolunteers from the Make-A-Wish Ambassadors program tell our story at a variety of functions and assemblies. We provide the information and our volunteers provide the passion to describe the power of a wish come true. Make-A-Wish Ambassadors address social and professional groups, federal and state employees and students, among others. Keep the Offices RunningVolunteers with time available during the week provide integral support at the Make-A-Wish offices in Atlanta and Birmingham. To maximize our program service dollars, volunteers help answer the phone, stuff envelopes and assist with other special projects. Learn the Power of GivingInternships are available for graduate and undergraduate students. During your internship the staff will give you an overview of the inner workings of the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, a non-profit organization that currently has 67 chapters in the United States and 28 international affiliates. Work hours and time requirements vary per student. Specialized internship projects can also be arranged on a case-by-case basis. This is a non-stipendiary internship.

"I have seen the incredible impact a fulfilled wish has on the child and their family. The wish can allow the focus to change from the illness and treatment to some fun and laughter, even if for a short time. It reenergizes the child to face the challenges of the next phases of their medical treatment plan and is often the turning point toward their recovery."
