“Alex Tackles the Last Frontier ”

Some kids dream about video games and skateboards. Seventeen-year-old Alex dreams on a much grander scale. Alex dreams of becoming a gastrointestinal physician one day in the hopes that he can help other children who suffer like he has. Alex was born with a serious liver disease, esophageal problems, and ulcerative colitis – more than any one person should ever have to deal with. When the Make-A-Wish Foundation® heard about this extremely bright, incredible young man and granted him a wish, they found out just how big Alex could dream! Alex always wanted to visit Alaska to see the landscape and wildlife, especially the whales. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® was more than happy to make that dream come true! While exploring “The Last Frontier,” Alex enjoyed whale watching in the wild, beautiful plane rides, a helicopter ride atop the glaciers and his personal favorite: a dogsled ride down Godwin Glacier! This was a magical trip from start to finish, and one that Alex truly deserved. In spite of his medical issues, Alex is on track to graduate next year as valedictorian of his senior class. For his family, this adventure to Alaska was something that no one will ever forget!

From Alex's Mom: “We were and are very grateful. It was overwhelming at times that there are people out there who help children and families have time together without having to think about the child’s illness. I always praise Make-A-Wish when I tell others about our experience.”

Special thanks to Nokia, who made Alex's dream come true by sponsoring his wish.
